Check out Vote
Watch: a repository for voter complaints
"Some say that the legitimacy of government in the United
States will remain in question as long as over 98% of the vote is
tabulated by machines that can be easily rigged, impossible to monitor,
and owned by a handful of private companies. The use of voting machines
may have affected the American political landscape with their introduction
in the early 1900's and particularly since computerized voting machines
entered elections in the mid-1960's..."

Touch-Screen Voting Fraud
from Buzzflash's interview with Greg Palast
"BUZZFLASH: Doesn't electronic, touch screen voting actually
improve the chances for large scale election fraud? Votes can more
easily be lost with a little "software glitch" or Democratic votes
could become Republican votes and who would know the difference?
"PALAST: Hell, yes. The "touch" screens are made by ES&S, chosen
by Katherine Harris, congressional candidate. The lobbyist for that
company is Sandy Mortham, founder of Women for Jeb -- and HarrisŐ
predecessor as Secretary of State. It was Mortham that began the
hunt for black voters in 1998. These Mortha-matic machines -- surprise,
surprise --failed to work in Black precincts. And there was no paper
ballot back-up..."

Fraud in the midterms?
Obviously, one of the primary reasons Democrats did so poorly in
the recent midterms is because they alienated those on the left
who prefer their politicians to posses spines, and those on the
right wouldn't care how often Democrats groveled at Bush's feet
because they'd never vote Democratic anyway. That being said, there
is every indication that fraud was rampant on November 5th. Below,
I've posted some comments from Zack Exley's Angry
Dems website:
"Attempts were made to examine the code used in the machines
in Florida. The attempt was blocked in the courts by the GOP citing
"proprietary/trade secrecy" protections under law. Upshot is that
the DNC could not ascertain how the machines tabulated votes and
how accurately. As mentioned above: it is easy to write code to
alter tabulations in any number of ways. A scary thought: why did
VNS suddenly fail to release exit poll data? Could it have been
in wide variance with machine tabulated results?"
"Why does the news media get to "call" the elections? Why do
the Republicans have the "keys to the kingdom" in the form of the
voting machines (ES&S)? We need to ask some critical questions about
how the machines are "programmed" and WHY THERE IS NO PUBLIC OVERSIGHT
of these machines."
Republicans get a boost in -- of course! -- Texas
10-30-02
from Star-Telegram:
"A state district judge dismissed a lawsuit Monday that was filed
last week by the county Democratic Party over early voting, saying
that she did not have jurisdiction to hear the case. The Democratic
Party filed the lawsuit after receiving dozens of complaints from
voters who said that when they tried to vote for a Democratic candidate,
the voting machine cursor instead landed on the Republican candidate...Dallas
County Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Hays said party officials
were debating whether they would appeal. She said party officials
were pleased that the county had implemented about a dozen changes
and safeguards requested in their suit, including checking machines
throughout the day and removing those that were malfunctioning. However,
she said they would still like the county to test and audit votes
taken on machines that had exhibited problems last week. County officials
have said that will not occur unless a judge orders it after the election."

Pataki Camp Accused of Bogus Voter Registrations
08-21-02
from Newsday:
"Gov. George Pataki's re-election campaign faced an embarrassment
yesterday when elections workers said thousands of Independence Party
voter registrations submitted by Pataki's camp may be fraudulent.
Bearing phony addresses and ages, forged signatures, and names like
Manuel Noriega and Romeo Shagwell, the registrations were collected
by workers paid bounties for each new voter by the Pataki campaign.
Pataki, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, is seeking the Independence
Party nomination on Sept. 10. The voter registration drive was an
effort to build Pataki support in that party. The Board of Elections,
which discussed the problem during a meeting yesterday, faces the
daunting task of validating the registrations, which number about
15,000, by Aug. 31. Noting that paid registration drives often yield
spotty results, Manhattan Democratic Commissioner Douglas Kellner
said, "The simplest explanation is that they paid people to get registrations,
and they got junk back." Still, Kellner said it may be the largest
voter registration fraud in recent history in the city, mirroring
the 19th-century scandals that triggered the bipartisan Board of Elections'
creation..."

State finds voter registration cards altered in Merced County
08-16-02
from Sacramento Bee
"Though voter registration cards were altered before the March
primary in Merced County, the Secretary of State's office says it
doesn't have enough evidence to prosecute. Nineteen Democrats filed
complaints with the office after discovering during the primary that
they were registered as Republicans. They registered to vote with
a person working for a firm hired by the Republican Party. The canvassers
were hired last winter, but the forgery on the cards could not be
tied to specific people, according to the secretary's office. "We
think that they broke the law, but there just isn't enough evidence
for a successful prosecution," said Alfie Charles, Secretary of State
Bill Jones' spokesman...During a five-month investigation of 10 canvassers,
the Secretary of State's office found on some cards, voters had checked
the box for "Democrat" and initialed the box for "Republican" at the
request of the canvassers, who then allegedly crossed out the check
in the Democrat box, the secretary's office said..."

Voter Intimidation in New Jersey Race
11-04-01 A fictitious group claiming to be 'Democrats for Democracy'
has sent a bi-lingual (English and Spanish) mailing to voters in Passaic
County, New Jersey. The mailing uses threatening language in a blatant
attempt to discourage minority voters from going to the polls; additionally,
because it purports to be from a group which does not exist, it is
an illegal mailing on several counts.
No doubt the mailing was sent because Democratic candidate Jim McGreevey
is still well ahead of Republican Bret Schundler in the polls.
Democratic State Chairman Joseph Roberts has asked John Ashcroft,
as well as the State Attorney General, to investigate the matter...but
of course, if voters decide not to go to the polls because of the
letter, the damage has already been done.
I will post updates as they are released.
