PUT YOUR TAX REBATE TO GOOD USE!

If you'll be receiving a tax rebate this summer under the recently-passed tax cut bill, chances are you don't really need it - the people who could really use $300 - $600 (including many, many people who are working hard to fight the right-wing coup) won't be getting a red cent from Shrub's 'soup kitchens for billionaires' tax cut.

If the money isn't going to make a real difference to you, why not donate a portion of it to a worthy cause?

Below I've listed some suggestion of where you can send your tax rebate. Find a cause that you believe in and lend them or helping hand, or better yet, lend several of them a helping hand. Even $10 - $25 can make a difference.

If you know of a worthy group that I don't have listed here, please feel free to send me suggestions (please include the URL of the group you're suggesting!)

Also be sure to go to the Tax Rebate Pledge website - they're tracking the donations people plan to make with their rebates, and they have a great list of worthy organizations! Another website which is tracking 'rejected rebates' is Reject the Rebate.

ANTI-COUP ORGANIZATIONS

Democrats.com - The aggressive progressives! If you're heavily involved in the protest movement, chances are that you've benefited from all the hard work that's put into this fantastic web site. Donations are needed for them to continue expanding, growing, and making a difference. Help Democrats.com continue fighting the good fight!

Citizens for Legitimate Government - Citizens for Legitimate Governement (CLG) is a non-partisan, pro-democracy group established to expose the Bush coup d'etat and to counter the Bush Occupation (of the White House). Mike Rectenwald and the other CLGers do a wonderful job of keeping us informed, and are THE resource for news of upcoming protests and reports of past protests. Let's make sure they're able to keep fighting for us.

Fringefolk - While the cost of running the Fringefolk project isn't too terribly high, I'm running it by myself on a non-existent budget and am entirely dependent on donations and button/t-shirt/sticker sales. There are many, many things I'd like to do to spread the word about our directory, and any help you can give - either by donating or by purchasing Fringefolk merchandise - would be deeply appreciated.

VoterMarch - Voter March arose as a result of the egregious conduct and unfair results of election 2000 which has led to the emergence of a growing Pro-Democracy movement. Lou Posner and the countless VoterMarch volunteers brought us together in D.C. and San Francisco on May 19th, and continue to work on our behalf against the coup. VoterMarch is a VERY worthy cause, and needs our support.

Mad Grandparents for Justice - This group of mad-as-hell grandparents is small, but VERY hard-working; they are currently putting together a national database to help improve turnout at protests, and members of the group are active protestors. They don't ask for donations on their webpage, but you can write to Lisa from their page and ask her about donating...they could really use our help!

Oral Majority - Bob Kunst, leader of Oral Majority, is one of the hardest-working activists out there. He protests the stolen election daily, and though we may not all agree with everything he says, we should be grateful for his tireless efforts. Bob and the Oral Majority deserve our support.

CounterCoup - The first protest I attended in the wake of November 7th was organized by CounterCoup, and they have continued to provide information, resources and support to the protest movement. Like the vast majority of anti-coup groups and websites, CounterCoup is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, so please consider helping them out.

ANTI-COUP WEBSITES & INDIVIDUALS

The Bush Brothers Banana Republic Resistance - Tammy "The Diva" works full-time on the BBBR site, which is hands-down THE BEST anti-coup website out there. If you haven't been to her site before, go right now...I guarantee that you will love it as much as I do. In addition to keeping us up-to-date on current right-wing outrages, keeping us motivated, and keeping our spirits high, the BBBR has hundreds of pages of useful information about the coup. You can make a straight donation to the BBBR, or help Tammy out by purchasing some of her merchandise.

The Walk for Democracy - 'Mantra' is walking from Washington state to Washington DC to protest the stolen election. Visit her website to find out how you can help. Naturally, Mantra has received no media coverage of her walk for democracy, so our support is sorely needed.
